MILL OR GRINDING MEDIA PURGE CALCULATION:

When changing from one type of grinding media to a new grinding media; the current media in the mill can be dumped, disposed of and replaced with the new one. While the effects or benefits of using the new media can be obtained immediately with such method, it comes at the cost of the old media being disposed of.

The purge method is very common when replacing the grinding media type in mills. The duration of the purge period varies depending on the mill dimensions, operating parameters, and wear rate of the old media. This web appication calculates the total length of the purge period, and the quantity or fraction of the old grinding media remaining in the mill as a function of time.
A different method of media purge calculation can be found at this external web page.

To use:
✅ Enter the mill diameter.
✅ Enter the liner thickness (to calculate the effective mill diameter).
✅ Enter the mill belly, feed end and discharge end lengths.
✅ Enter the feed and discharge trunnion diameters.
✅ Enter the current conditions to calculate the current media wear rate.
✅ Enter the media top up sizes and their percentage (use zeroes for top up 2 if only one top up size).
✅ Click on "Calculate" to calculate the purge time and plot its graph.
✅ (*) Note that the units used are metric.
