slurry

Solid specific gravity:
The solid specific gravity is not the same as the percent solid or pulp density. The solid density or specific gravity is the mass per unit volume of dry solid (kg/dm3 or kg/L or g/cm3). The procedure to determine the solid volume, hence its density is simple using water.

Slurry density:
While pulp density is often used interchangeably with pulp percent solid; the slurry density is correctly defined as the mass per unit volume of slurry (kg/dm3 or kg/L or g/cm3). Knowledge of slurry density is important, especially in comminution (e.g., in the determination of mill power).

size classification

Cyclone circulating load:
Calculations of the percent circulating load with two methods:
1) Using percent solid or pulp densities (or percent dilution) around the cyclone.
2) Using percent passing a selected screen around the cyclone.

Classifier efficiency:
Classification efficiency calculations using sieve analyses. By definition, it is the percent classifiable material in the feed that report to the overflow stream.

Sizing (particles size distribution):
This tool allows for the calculation and plotting of particles size distribution.

grinding

Mill critical speed
Calculation of the actual mill critical speed (in RPM) and the percent critical speed of a given mill speed.
Watch a Youtube video example.

Filling degree
Calculation of ball mill filling degree with two methods:
1) Using the effective mill diameter and free height above ball load.
2) Using the effective mill diameter, number of exposed and total lifter rows.
Watch a Youtube video example.

Filling degree from measured power
Estimation of ball mill filling degree from the mill dimensions, media/ore specific gravity, mill discharge percent solid, mill speed and power; based on the Morrell model (C-model). These calculations do not require mill entry, therefore they can be completed without stopping the mill to take measurements..

Media purge calculation
The purge method is very common when replacing the grinding media type in mills. The duration of the purge period varies depending on the mill dimensions, operating parameters, and wear rate of the old media. This web appication calculates the total length of the purge period, and the quantity or fraction of the old grinding media remaining in the mill as a function of time.

Grinding media trajectory in ball milling:
For effective grinding in ball milling, it is important that the media falls on the charge and not on the mill liners.
Therefore, simulation of the grinding media's trajectory not only helps design the lifter but also operate the mill more effectively.

Ball size optimization:
Calculations of the optimal ball size using Azzaroni and Allis Chalmers' formulae.
