MINIMUM NUMBER OF TESTS:
In order to statistically detect a difference D between two means using Student's t-tests,
the number of tests or sample size for each condition needs to be above a minimum value.
To use:
Enter the expected standard deviation of the data. This can be obtained from previous historical data.
Provide the desired minimum difference D to detect.
Enter the type 1 error (alpha value) or likelihood of being wrong when concluding that the means are different (value between 0 and 1, e.g., 0.05).
Enter the type 2 error (beta value) or likelihood of being wrong when concluding that the means are not different (value between 0 and 1, e.g., 0.10).
Click on "Calculate" to calculate the number of tests required for each condition, and the results will be shown below.
